Huawei Confirms That It Is Making the Next Nexus Smartphone to Be Unveiled Later This Year

As we start preparing for the next Android Iteration, Android N, it is also about time that we look forward to the next Nexus devices. Google seems to be a big fan on LG when it comes to Nexus devices. Last year, the company said that LG is the best engineering partner but it looks like Huawei wants to be on the same level with LG when it comes to Nexus devices.

The Nexus 6P which was announced back in September 2015 is made by Huawei and it looks like one of the 2016 Nexus devices will be from Huawei too. Huawei has confirmed this through Charlene Munilall, General Manager of its South African consumer business group. He confirmed that Huawei is building the next Nexus smartphone in an interview with Gear Burn.

Gear Burn quotes Munilall saying “we’re doing the Nexus again this year, by the way.” This is all the proof you need that Huawei is making a comeback with a Nexus device later this year. He did not go into details of this device as it is a bit too early for that information to be out there.

Besides Huawei, Who Else For Nexus 2016?

As for the other Nexus device, we still don’t know the company that will handle this. Google is a big fan on LG but rumours are suggesting that HTC will take up the challenge. We have heard that this HTC Nexus smartphone will come with 3D touch functionality. This will probably be the superior Nexus device like what we have currently with the Nexus 6P.

There are also rumours suggesting that HTC may make both Nexus smartphones this year. If this happens, Huawei will probably be make the Nexus tablet. This will replace the Nexus 9 tablet that has been around since 2014. HTC announced that it will stop manufacturing the Nexus 9 so it would make sense for Huawei to fill that up.
