3D touch functionality on displays first became popular when Apple introduced it on some of its devices not so long ago. This got a lot of people talking about the importance of this feature and as usual, the Apple ‘haters’ bashed it as being a useless piece of tech. well, no matter where you fall on this debate, 3D touch is here to stay and you should expect to see it on some Android devices later this year.

One such device that is rumored to have this feature is the rumored HTC Nexus smartphone that will be unveiled later this year. This device has not been confirmed but some industry insider are pointing out that one of its most unique feature will be 3D Touch. It is reported that Google also has plans to include 3D Touch functionality on the next Android version to help with its adoption. This would make sense if the HTC Nexus smartphone is to support it, Google has to do something in some way to show its support.

    3D Touch on Android

Even before Google adds 3D Touch as a native feature on Android, some manufacturers are already including it on some of their devices. The ZTE Axon Mini and Huawei Mate S are some of the Android smartphones that support this feature.

These are not the only two manufacturers interested in this technology as other key players such as Xiaomi, Oppo and even Vivo have smartphones planned for this year that will support 3D Touch.

What is interesting is that no other major Android manufacturer (read Samsung, LG, Sony) have shown interest in this technology. Currently we may just have to settle with HTC and hope that Google includes the feature on the next Android version as a way of getting manufacturers highly involved.
