Twitter Wants You to Stop Using Instagram

Twitter and Instagram have been battling each other since 2012 as each of them tries to be the go to picture hosting service. Twitter is not a full-fledged picture hosting service but since the internet is filled with photos of people documenting their lives, the company saw this as an opportunity to attract more users.

Back in 2012, Instagram abruptly stopped support for Twitter cards interface. This meant that photos posted on Instagram no longer appeared on Twitter. Users had to click on the links that redirected them to Instagram. This of course upset Twitter and it looks like the company cannot take it anymore.

Twitter is said to have sent messages to some influential users urging them to stop using Instagram. The prompt read, “Post your photos directly on Twitter to make sure your fans always see them.” This is the first major move Twitter has taken against Instagram.

Twitter has been working hard to make its site attractive by making the photo sharing process easy and fast. The company, through its mobile apps, even allows Photo tagging and Multi Tweet pictures.

Only time will tell if this move by Twitter will work out to its advantage. In case you are wondering, Instagram has more active users than Twitter even though Twitter has been around for longer.
