The latest entry-level smartphone from HMD Global, the Nokia 2.2 is finally available in Kenya for Ksh 10,200. Launched about a month ago, the Nokia 2.2 is the successor to the Nokia 2.1 from last year and is finally available in retail stores in Kenya. At its price, the Nokia 2.2 will compete directly with the Tecno Spark 3, Infinix Smart 3 Plus, the Huawei Y5 2019 just to name a few. This is a very competitive price segment that is hard to break into since consumers have so many options to choose from. Some people might argue that the…

Masoko, the Safaricom-owned e-commerce platform, has plans to expand beyond Kenya to other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa by next year (2020). Safaricom has announced this but did not name any countries they will be expanding to. The exact timeline as to when this will happen is a mystery too. It was only a matter of time before this expansion even though it has not fully conquered the Kenyan market. The Kenyan market is at its infancy stages but is very promising and so is the regional one. Masoko has to expand to the region early and build trust with the…
If you have been eying the Tecno Camon 11 Pro, this may be your chance to get it as it has been discounted on Jumia. The phone is now available through the e-commerce platform for Ksh 17,900. This is still not cheap but when the phone was launched late last year, its recommended retail price was Ksh 23,990. Like every other Camon device, the Camon 11 Pro is a camera-centric device that has a 24MP selfie camera and a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the back. These are not mind-blowing specifications as we have seen better from its competitors.…
Launched in Kenya back in April, the Infinix S4 has been sold through key retail shops in the country but not Safaricom shops. The Infinix S4 has been available through Jumia for Ksh 15,700 and now you can also get it from Safaricom shops for Ksh 17,999. We are used to seeing phones sold through Safaricom shops retailing at higher prices compared to those available through other retail stores. The version of the Infinix S4 available through Safaricom shops is the 3GB one with 32GB of internal storage space, pretty much the same on available through Jumia for Ksh 2,000…
Yesterday, Xiaomi opened the first Mi Home Store in Kenya at the Hub in Karen. This is a significant step for the company that may not be considered to be a mainstream brand by many people. With the opening of its flagship store at the Hub, Xiaomi is cementing its presence in Kenya and expanding the number of products its sells in the country. The company said that it has 300 different products at the store ranging from Smart umbrellas to smart bulbs to smart suitcases and many more. The company is clearly not just targeting smartphone buyers but is…
After weeks of waiting, the first Mi Home Store by Xiaomi will be opened in Kenya this Sunday (July 14) at the Hub in Karen. This will actually be the first Mi Home Store in Sub Saharan African and it is sort of a big deal if you ask me. Xiaomi is not new to Kenya but the company has been pushing its smartphones and a few consumer electronics a lot more and that is what is it primarily known for. The company will change this with the Mi Home Store as it will have more products that you expect.…
Two days ago, Google added a ton of new languages that its camera translation application can understand. This is a big deal as the search giant added 60 more languages and Swahili was one of them. Some of the other languages added include Xhosa, Yoruba, Afrikaans, Zulu among others. The number of languages added was 60 and this brings the total number of languages supported to 88. You can check out the list of all supported languages here. With the Google Translate app, you can hold up your smartphone and take a photo of any text that you want translated.…
We already know Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note 10 series on August 7, less than a month from today. With the launch date just around the corner, we are getting leaks of what to expect when the phone is launched. The latest leak was shared on Twitter and shows the punch-hole at the middle top part of the display. This is not the first time Samsung is using a punch hole notch so the concept is not strange to them. You will definitely not miss the punch hole and to be honest I prefer having it at the…
If you have a smartphone with a very big display, then you know it is not easy to access all part of the display at all times. One area you may struggle to access is the notification panel, you have to tilt the phone a bit just to reach the top of the phone to pull down the notifications to see the ones that demand your attention. This may not be the case for those of you using smartphones with customized UIs including those from Samsung, Xiaomi and a many others but it is for those using stock Android, mostly…
Dark Mode seems to be the trend these days and this has been championed by non-other than Google. The company has updated most of its apps to have a dark mode option for those who prefer to have that activated on the applications they are using. Dark mode works well with AMOLED displays but even those without these displays on their smartphones can still activate it if they want to use their phones in the dark or at night. Google Keep, the note taking app, already has a dark mode and this was added when the app was updated a…
