Wileyfox has today officially unveiled its latest affordable smartphones that come with Cyanogen OS out of the box. These devices join the Wileyfox Swift and Storm that have been available in a few markets (Kenya included). Wileyfox is known for its affordable devices and the new ones are not any different.

The reason why Wileyfox gets our attention is because it is a UK company and we never see affordable devices from western companies. We are used to seeing affordable devices coming from Chinese manufacturers so we have to look closely at what Wileyfox is doing as its devices will most likely be heading to markets such as Kenya. The three devices the company unveiled today include the Spark, Spark+ and the Spark X.

    The Wileyfox Spark

The Wileyfox Spark is the cheapest of the three and is available for £89.99 (approximately Ksh 12,000). It has a 5 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which is not that bad considering the price. Under the hood, the Spark is powered by the 64 bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735A processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. For the OS, it comes with Cyanogen OS 13 preinstalled.

The Wileyfox Spark is a 4G smartphone and has an interesting camera combination of 8MP both on the front and the back. This was unexpected especially if you consider the phone’s price. The battery is a 2,200 mAh one. It is available in two color options of Sandstone Black or White.

    The Wileyfox Spark+

The Spark+ borrows a few things from the standard Spark with a few extra features. It has the same 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Powering it is the same 64 bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735A processor but the good thing is that Wileyfox has expanded the RAM to 2GB and the storage space to 16GB. Storage space can be expanded further using a microSD card. The OS pre installed is Cyanogen OS 13.

This is a 4G LTE enabled smartphone and has a 13MP camera at the back with an 8MP one in front. The battery remains the same at 2,200 mAh one. The Spark+ will be available for £114.99 (approximately Ksh 16,000).

The Spark X is the premium of the three and comes with a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space that can be expanded using a microSD card.

The camera at the back is a 13MP one with an 8MP front facing one. The battery has been expanded to a 3,000 mAh one. The OS running on the Spark X is still Cyanogen OS 13.

Price will be £129.99 (approximately Ksh 18,000).

    Availability

The Wileyfox Spark is available for preorder now and will hit retail stores in June 12. The Spark+ will be available later next month and the Spark X will be available in August.
