Earlier this year, Samsung announced its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, but it never made it to the end-user for problems succumbed by the review units. However, Samsung reported last month that the device was redesigned to iron out the root problems that resulted in the breakage of the review units.

Part of the redesign involved tucking the screen protective layer into the edges of the device and protecting the foldable part from dust particles by hiding it behind a rubber material.

Despite the design tweaks, Galaxy Fold still retains its offering exteriorly including the 7.3” Infinity Flex Display and the 4.6” Super AMOLED panel that is meant to be used upon folding the device. Under the hood, Galaxy Fold retains Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

In the new form, Samsung Galaxy Fold has a 5G variant which is powered by a 4,235 mAh battery instead of the 4,380 mAh battery in the 4G model.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Fold in South Korea tomorrow, and other markets will likely follow soon.

    Pricing

Initially, the Galaxy Fold was priced at $1980 (approx. Ksh 200,000). In the new announcement, the company has not said a word on the price. However, rumor suggests the price will remain the same even after the redesign.
