The Nokia 2.2 Goes on Sale in Kenya For Ksh 10,200

Nokia 2.2

The latest entry-level smartphone from HMD Global, the Nokia 2.2 is finally available in Kenya for Ksh 10,200. Launched about a month ago, the Nokia 2.2 is the successor to the Nokia 2.1 from last year and is finally available in retail stores in Kenya.

At its price, the Nokia 2.2 will compete directly with the Tecno Spark 3, Infinix Smart 3 Plus, the Huawei Y5 2019 just to name a few. This is a very competitive price segment that is hard to break into since consumers have so many options to choose from. Some people might argue that the Nokia 2.2 is a bit overpriced when compared to the other devices on this list but HMD Global says that its products offer value for money but not just the specifications users want to see.

Like most of the recent smartphones from HMD Global, the Nokia 2.2 comes with a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left side. With this button, you can easily activate Google Assistant from any screen. If you use Google Assistant regularly, this button may be useful to you but it will not be so if you don’t. I would have hoped to have an option to reprogram the button to do other tasks like opening the camera or to make it easier for users to open an app they use often. I know this is too much to ask for an entry-level phone but it would have differentiated the phone from its competitors.

HMD Global has also announced that the Nokia 2.2 is scheduled to get Android Q update when it is available. The phone comes with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box but like other Nokia phones, it is scheduled to get at least two major Android updates, Android Q and R in this case. In addition to this, the phone should get monthly security updates from Google.

Commenting during the launch, Gopher Ogembo, HMD Senior Business Manager East Africa said, “ With the Nokia 2.2, we’ve brought the pinnacle of AI experiences to more people than ever before. And including features like biometric face unlock with liveliness detection adding extra security to your phone, AI imaging, Google Lens and Google Assistant at the press of a button, we aim to revolutionize the way our fans interact with the phone. Nokia 2.2 joins our Android One family, and like all Nokia smartphones, offers an experience that stays fresh longer. With two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security updates guaranteed, Nokia 2.2 is Android Q ready and will just keep getting better.”

You can get the Nokia 2.2 from retail stores across the country including Safaricom shops.
