YouTube Has Added A Pinch-To-Zoom Feature For Those Using Displays Wider Than 16:9

In the smartphone world, we have been accustomed to using displays with 16:9 aspect ratio. This has been the norm and just recently we saw manufacturers moving to 18:9 aspect ratio for Samsung and the likes and 18.5:9 for the iPhone X and the Nokia 8. With such displays you have to live with black bars at the very top and bottom when watching videos.

Up until this point, the solution has been to take advantage of a feature that makes it easier to change the aspect ration of the app to get rid of the black bars. This was not the case for all devices but for a few of them out there. This was the case for YouTube videos on the Galaxy Note 8 that I am currently reviewing. The only issue is that some part of the video is cropped out a bit when you use this option.

YouTube has come out with a fix for those who want an even better experience when watching videos on devices with such wide displays. The company has released an updated app that supports crop-zooming of YouTube videos to ensure you can use all the display when watching videos. This makes for a better experience when using such displays as I have found out in the Galaxy Note 8 in my possession.

The latest version of the app is version 12.44 and as I have mentioned above, I have tested it on the Note 8 but my guess is that it can work on any device with an aspect ration wider that 16:9. To get it, grab the latest update that is available on the Play Store right now.
