HMD Unveils Its Cheapest Nokia Smartphone yet, the Nokia 2

Nokia 2

When HMD Global re-introduced the Nokia smartphones to the world, the company chose to focus on the mid range devices at first. It is just recently that we saw the Nokia 8 which is the most premium device in the Nokia family. At the moment, the devices from HMD available include the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8. Out of these, the Nokia 3 is the cheapest and is available f or Ksh 15,000.

Ksh 15,000 is not very cheap and that is why HMD has decided to unveil an even cheaper device, the Nokia 2. This phone was unveiled a couple of hours ago in India and puts to rest the many rumours we have heard about the device the last few months.

The Nokia 2 comes with some very standard entry-level specifications. It has a 5 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, this display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor that is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. If the 8GB of space is not enough for you, you can expand it up to 128GB using a microSD card.

The Nokia 2 does not come with Android Oreo though. It comes with Android Nougat out of the box but HMD has confirmed that it will be updated with Android Oreo down the line together with the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8. This is one of the first entry-level devices that we know for sure willl be getting Android Oreo.

The Nokia 2 has an 8MP main camera at the back and a 5MP selfie shooter. The main camera has autofocus and can shoot videos at only 720p at 30fps. As for the battery, it comes with a 4100 mAh unit that HMD says can give you 2 days of use if you use your phone for 5 hours per day.

Price and Availability

Now to the price, HMD says the phone will be available from as low as €99 (approximately Ksh 12,000). It will be available in copper, black, and white. The phone will be available mid November, no news as to when we will be getting it in Kenya, I will update you on that if and when I get more information.
