Huawei will not launch the Mate 9 Phablet in September

Two days ago, we told you that Huawei has an event in September where we expect to see at least one new smartphone. When this information surfaced, we concluded that the company was going to unveil the successor to the Mate 8, the Mate 9. The Huawei Mate 8 was unveiled back in November last year and for the Mate 9 to be unveiled bit earlier meant that the company was going to change its schedule going forward.

Well, it looks like Huawei is not going to change its schedule after all. According to Bruce Lee (not the actor) who is a mobile product line manager, the Mate 9 will not be unveiled early. This means that the September launch date is off the list and we probably have to wait till November.

Since the Mate 9 will not be arriving in September, we are now curious to know what the company has planned for that event. Probably a variant of the P9? This seems highly unlikely as we already have 3 variants of the P9 and I do not see the company adding more. We might just see a variant of the Mate 8 which was recently certified by TENAA. The company may even choose to introduce a new smartphone lineup targeting the mid-range market segment. Right now we don’t know anything but all we know is that it is not going to be the Mate 9.

Speaking of the Mate 9, we have not heard so much about it yet. All we have heard is that it may come with the Octa-core Kirin 960 processor and a 20MP dual camera setup. We will get more information about it as we get close to the launch date.
