Its Official, Apple Does Not Like Third Party Watch Faces

Apple has managed to keep its iOS ecosystem tightly locked and free from apps it deems unnecessary/unimportant. This tight grip has kept the ecosystem secure and ensured that most apps are of the highest quality possible.

For the past few days, we have been hearing of Apple watch developers getting emails that tell them that their apps have been rejected from the App store for one reason or the other. Out of all those who got rejection emails, those developers who have seen a high rejection rate are those creating third party watch faces and submitting them to the app store.

Apple did not give any clear reason why it was rejecting these apps until now. The company has updated its App store guidelines to clearly show that it does not want developers to make third party watch faces.

The updated guidelines read, “Watch Apps whose primary function is telling time will be rejected.” So there you have it, if you have an app whose main function is this, be sure it will be rejected.
