Last week, Google announced Android Wear which is essentially a version of Android built for smartwatches and other wearables. The company even went ahead to partner with some of the biggest Smartphone manufacturers including Samsung and LG to come up with the first Android wear smartwatches.

Android wear requires pairing with a Smartphone to send notifications to the Smartwatch straight from your phone. One cool thing about Android wear that most people do not know about is its ability to run standalone apps. This means developers can build apps that run independently on your Smartwatch.

Some developers are not wasting time and have already built apps using this feature. One of those apps is the Wear calc. This is a minimalistic calculator app that can be downloaded on any Android Wear device with a square screen. The app only downloads to smartwatches with square screens but we hope they will make it available for round screens such as the one on the Moto 360 Smartwatch by Motorola.

Another app that has already been built and is available at Google Play store is the ‘Wear compass.’ This can be downloaded to any Android Wear device.

Both these apps are voice activated and come from the same developer going by the name Marian Zorrilla.
