Samsung has finally launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, in Kenya. These phones were officially unveiled to a global audience late last month and they are finally available in Kenya. The Galaxy S9 is available for Ksh 85,000 while the Galaxy S9+ is available for Ksh 95,000. These are the recommended retail prices and may vary depending on where you get the phone from. If you have been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ in Kenya, the wait is finally over as the company will be unveiling these smartphones tomorrow (23rd). These are the company’s latest devices that were unveiled to a global audience less than a month ago. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are all about the upgraded camera and Samsung has been running ads in the country to highlight this. The phones are not that different from their predecessors, the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The camera is one of the big upgrades with some other small changes but the company…

A couple of months back, Tecno introduced the Camon CM in Kenya. This was the company’s first device with the Full view display (or 18:9 aspect ration if you want to be technical). If you thought this was the only Camon device we will be seeing this year, then you are wrong. There is another Camon device that the company will be unveiling next month. It name is rumoured to be the Tecno Camon X (the name has not been confirmed) and its global launch will be Nigeria. The company has been secretive about this phone but I first heard…

Earlier this year, there were reports that Wileyfox, the British smartphone brand, was exiting the smartphone market. This was after the company entered administration and a number of publications reported that this was the end of the road for the company. It was sad to see this as Wileyfox was a promising smartphone brand that even brought some of its smartphones to Kenya back in 2016. If you are a fan of Wileyfox or owned any of their phones, you may be happy to know that the company isn’t exiting the market. This is after STK, a British phone maker,…

Google is about to make some changes to the YouTube player by allowing users to minimize videos to a thumbnail that will keep playing and let them continue browsing through the website. This feature is already available on YouTube for Android and iOS but it has been missing from the desktop version. For YouTube, this will be a way to let users watch as many videos as possible and hopefully this will improve audience retention and increase the number of videos each viewer watches. According to 9to5Google, Google is A/B testing this feature using a small group of users. Those…

Not so long ago, some Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro users finally got Android Oreo on their devices. These was the final version of the OS and not the beta version that has been around since late 2017. The update is still not available to all users in all markets and even I don’t have it yet. Right now Huawei is getting ready to launch its 2018 flagship smartphone line up, the Huawei P20 series. Since the P20 series is not out yet, Huawei is working on Android 8.0 Oreo update for its 2017 flagship, the Huawei P10.…

Once upon a time, Samsung dominated the entry level smartphone segment. These days, we don’t see the company doing so much in this segment as it has been focusing on the mid-range and high-end segments. In 2018, Samsung is out with the Galaxy Grand Prime Pro (2018) that it hopes will be perfect for those looking for an affordable smartphone under Ksh 20,000. The name is a mouthful and bear with me in this review as the phone offers more than just the name. The name aside, phone’s price is what the company hopes will get people excited. It’s recommended…
