Yego taxi app is the latest cab hailing application to launch in Kenya. This app wants to differentiate itself by taking 12% commission for every ride. This is the lowest rate in Kenya at the moment and is even lower than the 18% recommended by the law. It is even lower than the 15% commission Little takes for every ride.

Yego Mobility Kenya limited says they are here to “revolutionize urban mobility in the country with better terms for drivers and fair fares for passengers.” The company says they have done  in-depth on-ground feasibility studies over the past two years and targets addressing pain points of the driver community and passengers.”

Yego has three main cab class sizes, Compact, Medium and XL. The rates for each are different as you can see below.

Compact (3 seats) Medium (4 seats) XL (6 seats)
Base Fare Ksh 200 (up to 2KM and 5 min) Ksh 250 (up to 2KM and 5 min) Ksh 300 (up to 2KM and 5 min)
After 2KM Ksh 30 per Kilometer Ksh 41 per Kilometer Ksh 55 per Kilometer
After 5 minutes Ksh 5 per minute Ksh 5 per minute Ksh 5 per minute

As you can see, Yego is well priced and is not that different from what the other taxi hailing apps on the market charge. It has different taxi classes and this means that you have one that can fit your needs.

Besides the commission, the company further stated, “Yego drivers are provided personal accident insurance at no cost and medical insurance to qualifying Drivers. Fares will also be kept in line with the prevailing fuel prices and traffic situations, and drivers can withdraw their earnings on demand with the actual processing fees. A drivers’ SACCO (savings and credit cooperative) is being set up and YEGO Mobility Kenya has committed to pay 10% of its dividend to the SACCO to secure the Drivers’ future.”
