Telegram has debuted a new update with significant improvements in the voice chat segment to rival Clubhouse, the booming voice chat platform, and more recent entries like Twitter’s Spaces. Voice Chats arrived on Telegram in December, but since then, there’s been no major improvement to help the secure messaging platform take on rival platforms like Clubhouse.
However, the latest update is what Telegram users have been yearning for, providing lots of functionality to voice chats. The first new functionality provides admins with the ability to record voice chats and share for later consumption to those who might have missed the session.
Recorded voice chats will be instantly available under Saved Messages. Another handy feature is users’ ability to raise their hand when they want to speak, bringing order to discussions. It has been helpful for video and voice conferencing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet and Clubhouse.
Voice chats on Telegram can now accommodate millions of active users, as well. Telegram likens this ability to public radio reinvented for the 21st century.
Another feature that bolsters its voice chat offering is dedicated speaker and listener links. Admins can create and share dedicated links for speakers and listeners, opening the voice chat right away. Thanks to separate invite links for listeners and speakers, admins get a more straightforward job managing voice chats. It also eliminates the need to unmute guests when they join a voice chat.
Voice chats also have optional titles which help users see the topic of conversation before they join.
The last voice chat facing feature rolled out enables users to choose to join voice chats with their personal accounts or channels.
Lastly, Telegram has also added some newer features that are not voice chat focused, like the ability to resume playback for long voice messages(finally!) and an easy way to cancel forwarded messages to wrong chats. Android users also get extra swipe gestures bundled in the new update, adding to the app’s increasing portfolio of inherent gestures.
