Samsung might not launch the Galaxy Note flagship series this year. The company revealed the news at its annual shareholders’ meeting.
According to the South Korean technology company’s mobile chief DJ Koh, “It could be a burden to unveil two flagship models in a year so it might be difficult to release [a] Note model in 2H.”(via Bloomberg)
“The timing of [the] Note model launch can be changed but we seek to release a Note model next year.”
Koh says skipping the Galaxy Note this year is more about streamlining its lineup. Samsung releases two flagship series phones each year – the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series. The company already debuted this year’s Galaxy S21 series trio, which was launched earlier than usual.
The Galaxy Note, which is often launched in the second half of the year, is headlined by a stylus pen and targeted at power consumers. Samsung’s inclusion of the vital stylus support feature in the Galaxy S21 Ultra, a first for the Galaxy S series, sparked speculation that, indeed, the company could be nixing the Note for good following last year’s rumours.
But with the official statement from the company, the Note could be coming next year.
At its meeting, Samsung also mentioned issues with the global supply chain, becoming the latest tech behemoth to raise concerns about the struggling chip industry.
Continued strain in the supply and demand of chips spans across industries, away from smartphones to automakers. Koh says there’s a “serious imbalance” in the supply and demand of chips globally.
