Netflix Will Automatically Download Videos It Thinks You Might Like

Netflix Android Phone

Netflix is adding a new feature to its platform that will automatically download movies and TV Shows that you might enjoy for offline watching. The new feature is called “Downloads For You”.

“Downloads For You” basically analyzes your personal viewing history to find new shows that match your taste. Once you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, the app will then download matching shows on your behalf that you can watch when offline.

“Today, we’re launching Downloads For You, a new feature that automatically downloads recommended shows or movies to your mobile device based on your tastes,” Patrick Flemming, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation, said in a statement.

“Whether you’re a comedy fan stuck on a long car ride or a rom-com lover without internet, we do the work, so there is always something new waiting to entertain and delight you.”

Users have the power to turn on or off the new feature at their liking. Downloads For You complements the available Smart Downloads feature that automatically deletes watched episodes and downloads the succeeding ones for offline viewing.

Downloads For You is under the downloads tab on mobile. It also allows users to select the amount of space that offline content should occupy at a maximum — 1GB, 3GB or 5GB.

Here is how it looks like.

The feature is available on Android globally and will be coming to iOS devices in the future. You should give it a few more days if it’s not yet available on your end. Personally, the feature is not yet available on my end with the latest version of Netflix installed.

Netflix Timer Feature

Netflix is also testing another feature that will let users select a specific time after which the app will automatically close; 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or at the end of a movie or episode.

The timer feature is under testing on Android, with a major intention of saving data and battery life. It’s not clear when the timer feature will be available, if ever.
