At its “Hi, Speed” event, Apple finally announced its 2020 iPhone 12 series. This time, the company has unveiled a total of four new iPhones(iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max) with the smallest and cheapest of all starting at $699 So what do the new iPhones offer? Let’s start with the iPhone 12 mini.
iPhone 12 mini
For the first time, Apple announced an iPhone with a “mini” moniker. Staying true to its name, the iPhone 12 mini sports a 5.4-inch screen. The iPhone 12 mini is even smaller in terms of size than the 2020 iPhone SE, which had a reminiscent design to its predecessor.
That is because Apple crammed in more screen real estate by reducing the bezels. Apple refers to the iPhone 12 mini as the ‘smallest and lightest 5G phone in the world.’
As a result, the phone has FaceID but lacks Touch ID. It’s also powered by the newly announced 5nm A14 Bionic chip with a six-core CPU and four-core GPU. The A14 Bionic is 50 percent faster than the now preceding A13 powering iPhone 11 series.
Moving to the cameras, iPhone 12 mini has two on the rear(12MP f/1.6 main + 12MP ultrawide) and a single front-facing selfie camera. It also features 1P68 dust and water resistance, wireless charging, and a Ceramic Shield front-cover for durability like the rest of the iPhone 12 series phones. iPhone 12 mini has flat aluminum sides. iPhone 12 mini starts at $729 and will be available in blue, green, black, white, and red.

iPhone 12 succeeds in 2019’s iPhone 11 with the new flat design and a spec (and price) bump. It features a 6.1-inch OLED display(1220nits, HDR, HLG) with a reduced notch, identical design to iPhone 12 mini, the new A14 Bionic processor, 5G, and wireless charging support.
All the new iPhones can be attached to various accessories due to magnets placed at the back that Apple calls the “MagSafe” system.
iPhone 12 has dual cameras on the back like the mini with improved low-light performance and night mode support on the front camera. It’ll come in black, white, blue, red, and green, starting at $829 for the 64GB model.
iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
At the top of this year’s series is the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The Pro has a 6.1-inch OLED display while the Pro Max has a massive 6.7-inch screen – the biggest we’ve seen on an iPhone to date.
They are powered by the new 5nm A14 Bionic chip with 5G(sub-6GHz and mmWave) and wireless charging support. iPhone 12 Pro price is $999(128GB) and 12 Pro Max starts at $1,099. To differentiate the 2020 flagship iPhones from the rest, Apple opted for a flat stainless steel design instead of aluminum.
iPhone 12 Pro models also features a LIDAR sensor for additional AR effects and will aid focus in low-light situations. Because of the LIDAR sensor, the iPhone 12 Pro models can take portraits in Night Mode.
For the cameras, both have three on the back: 12MP wide, telephoto(4x optical zoom), and ultrawide with a faster f/1.6 aperture. The Pro models can shoot in HDR and even Dolby Vision HDR.
Like the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12, the pro models also support MagSafe accessories.
iPhone 12 Pro models will be available in gray, stainless steel, gold, and a new blue color. For environmental reasons, the entire iPhone 12 series won’t ship with a power adapter and EarPods. You’ll get a USB-C to Lightning cable, though. All phones run on iOS 14.
Availability
Different iPhone 12 series models will start shipping at different times, but that latest date is November 13th.
