The Huawei Y7p is finally available in retail stores in Kenya. This is the latest from the company that is available in Kenya for Ksh 18,499. Unlike previous Huawei smartphones, this one has not been on pre-order and the company took it straight to the market where you can get it from today.

The Huawei Y7p is the first smartphone from the company with no Google Mobile services to launch in Kenya. Since the trade war between China and the US prevents Huawei from working with Google and using its products and services on its devices, the company cannot take advantage of Google Play and Mobile Services. In addition to this, the phone does not come with Google Apps pre-installed.

With the lack of these key services, Huawei is using its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), which include a range of essential smartphone features including the Huawei AppGallery, an app marketplace from which users can easily download apps.

There is going to be an effect of not having the key Google services Android users are used to but Huawei hopes that it can address some of the challenges with HMS. It is still early to say if that will work out for them and we have to wait and see how it turns out.

Speaking of the new device in the market, Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head, Jim Zhujie said, The HUAWEI Y7p brings to the themed range segment a design ethos that makes it stand out from other commonly seen devices. With a massive 6.39 inch display, the HUAWEI Y7p gives users an immersive bezel-less viewing experience. This is further complemented by the gradient color finishes on the back of the phone which further accentuates the smartphone’s design ethos, making it aesthetically pleasing and more stream-lines.

Below are some of the other key Huawei Y7p Specifications.

    • Display: IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen, 6.39” with ~82.4% screen-to-body ratio.
    • Chipset: Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 710F
    • GPU: Mali-G51 MP4
    • OS: Android 9.0 with EMUI 9.1 on top
    • Internals: 4GB RAM with 64GB; expandable up to 512GB
    • Rear camera: Triple: 48MP + 8MP + 2MP
    • Front Camera: 8MP, f/2.0
