Google is Creating Yet Another Chat App, But for Enterprise Customers

Google is known for trying new things, especially when it comes to creating a place where people can communicate and share information.

Past attempts have failed, with the most potent mention among Google’s failed social platforms being Google Plus which was laid to rest in 2018 after about 7 years in the market. Last year, Google released Shoelace a hypersocial app that helps connect people with similar interests but was only made available in New York City, USA.

Now Google is working on a new chat app that is targeting workplaces. The app will combine Google’s portfolio of services that are designed for enterprise customers.

After trying to pitch their services to normal consumers, the company seems to be trying out on its business customers.

The new chat app will take on Slack and Microsoft Teams which are the common workplace apps right now. Many enterprise customers have already moved to the two and Google hopes a unified messaging app across its enterprise software will lure them back into their traditional ecosystem.

It is, therefore, no surprise that the new chat app will be integrated directly into G-Suite.

The pitch is still confusing as the app is mainly aimed to consolidate parts of G-Suite including corporate-grade Gmail, Google Drive, Hangouts Meet, and Hangouts Chat.

The name hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is reportedly already under internal testing. Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google’s cloud unit, has already pitched the product to salespeople and business partners in the unit in a meeting held in mid-January, according to The Information.
