The Huawei P30 Lite is one of my favorite phones of 2019. It is reasonably priced considering what it has to offer and came at a time when there was not so much competition within its price category. Huawei says they have sold over 10,000 units since its launch 6 months ago and this is not a bad number considering the bad press the company received the latter part of the year thanks to the US-China trade war.

With the success of the P30 Lite, the company is back with a new version of the phone that it is calling the Huawei P30 Lite New Edition. As the name suggests, it is the updated version of the P30 Lite and it is available in Kenya for Ksh 28,500. You can get the phone from retail stores countrywide and online through Jumia.

The camera is one of the big upgrades of the Huawei P30 Lite New Edition. It has a triple camera setup at the back made up of a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. For the selfie camera, we do get a 24MP unit housed inside the waterdrop notch.

Speaking during the launch, Steven Li, Country President Huawei Mobile Kenya said, “Following the successful launch of the P30 series in the market about 6 months ago we are delighted to introduce to you another version in the same family with higher specs to meet the consumers’ needs. Combining an exquisite design with Huawei’s innovations, the latest HUAWEI P30 lite New Edition smartphone is equipped with three rear cameras with support for ultra-wide angle photography and artificial intelligence (AI) features. Making high-quality photography accessible, it enables young photography enthusiasts to capture poster-quality images on a smartphone.”

Powering the Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is the Kirin 710 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. The phone comes with EMUI 9.0.1 which is based on Android 9 Pie and not 10. Most of the other specifications are the same as those we saw on the P30 Lite from earlier this year.

Display: 6.15-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2312 pixels resolution
    Processor: Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 710
    GPU: Mali-G51 MP4
    RAM: 6 GB
Storage: 128GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card up to 512GB
    Cameras: Triple: 48MP + 8MP + 2MP rear camera, 24 MP front-facing camera
    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 3,340mAh battery
Android: Android 9 Pie; EMUI 9.0.1
    Size: 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4 mm, 159 grams
