Netflix is undoubtedly a force to reckon with in the streaming industry. The platform has seen tremendous growth over the years expanding to almost all countries across the world.

In 2018, the video streaming giant had a very good year if the latest figures are anything to go by. The company has announced that it gained 8.8 million subscribers during the last quarter of 2018. I am happy to say I am among these 8.8 million new subscribers after signing up for Netflix after months of putting it off.

The 8.8 million new subscribers exceed the 7.6 million subscribers the company had predicted. Right now, Netflix seems to be having a very good year compared to other streaming services and this can be attributed to its presence in other markets and not just the United States. The company has even said that out of the 8.8 million new subscribers, only 1.5 million came from the US and the remaining 7.3 million were from other parts of the world.

With the new 8.8 million subscribers, Netflix currently has 139 million subscribers in total. This is 29 million more than what it had in 2017.

    Original Content

Netflix has been able to expand rapidly by investing in original content and in some markets it creates localized content to appeal to users in those countries. This is what come other streaming services fail to do and the main reason why Netflix keeps attracting users in such huge numbers.

The company has plans to invest more in original content this year as other players join this space. One of its most recent investments was the Bird Box movie that has been viewed in over 80 million households so far.
