Xiaomi has just announced that MIUI 9 has started rolling out to users globally. The company announce this today saying that a select number of devices will be getting it first before its is available to all users. This is the stable build of MIUI 9, we saw the beta version a couple of months ago and not much has changed from what we saw back then.

According to Xiaomi, the devices that will be getting the UI in early November include the Redmi Note 4, Mi Mix 2, Mi Max 2 and the Redmi Y1 series. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 series is the latest smartphone from the company that it has just announced.

When announcing MIUI 9, Xiaomi compared it with the Samsung Experience 8.1 on the Galaxy J7 Max. The company says its version is much faster that Samsung’s and even says that it is as fast as the Stock Android you get on one of its recent smartphones, the Xiaomi M1 A1. These are bold claims and the company substantiated them through a live demo that as expected showed MIUI 9 as the faster version with less lags.

    MIUI 9 Update Schedule

Now to the details as to when you should expect the update on your device.

November 3 – Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm variant), Redmi Note 4X and Mi Max 2

    Mid-November – Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4X, Mi 5 and Mi Max

Early December – All the other phones including Mi Mix, Mi 2 and later, Mi Note and later, Redmi Note 4G and later, Redmi 2 and later

MIUI 9 is Not Android Oreo

Before you get excited, know that MIUI 9 is based on Android Oreo. Xiaomi is not of of the fastest adopters of the latest Android versions so you will have to wait a little longer to get Android Oreo. Some of the new features MIUI 9 adds include split screen, Smart App launcher, 21 animated icons, App Vault, New MIUI Video App among other new features.
