WhatsApp is finally adding Live location sharing to its Android and iOS apps. With this feature, users will be able to share the location with their contacts in real time. This is helpful if you want your friends and/or family members to know where you are especially at night or when you just want them to know where you are at a specific time like when you are meeting someone for the first time.

WhatsApp is calling this feature Live Location and users can get in within a chat right under the ‘Location’ option. To use it, open a chat with the person or people you want to share your location with and then choose the Attach button and then the Location. You will see the Live Location option, choose that and then choose how long you want to share your location for and then tap send. That is all, your friends will be able to see your location in real time.

As mentioned above, you will be able to share your location with an individual or with different people in a group. If you decide to share your location to a group, everyone in the group will be able to see your real-time location on a map. If one other group member shares their location, that will also be added to the same map. If you share your location, you have the option of stopping it anytime, if you don’t stop it, it will expire after the duration you had picked.

To ensure safety and privacy of users, WhatsApp says this feature is secured with end-to-end encryption. The company says that users should expect this new feature in the coming weeks as long as they are on Android or iOS.
