BlackBerry has had it rough the last couple of years, the company has seen its market share drop to levels not seen before. Q4 of 2016 was the worst quarter the company has had so far as BlackBerry OS’ market dropped to 0.0% from a market share of 1.1% it recorded during the same period in 2015. This is quite interesting but sort of expected since we did not see any new smartphones powered by BlackBerry OS during that quarter. The company focused on releasing a couple of Android powered smartphones instead.

During this quarter, Android was king as its total market share stood at 81.7%. Apple’s iOS followed at a distant second with a 17.9% market share, up slightly from 17.7% market share the company recorded during the same period the previous year. Even though iOS has seen its market share rise, it still can’t be compared to Android.

BlackBerry OS was very popular back when smartphones got into the market but that is not the case right now.  With not many people considering BlackBerry OS devices, we expect the operating system to disappear from the face of the planet in the next couple of years.

Windows Phone is still around with a market share of 0.3%, a drop from 1.1% market share it recorded in Q4 of 2015.

    Apple Vs Samsung

During Q4 of 2016, Apple was the king with a 17.9% market share followed by Samsung with a 17.8% market share. This was expected since this is the quarter Samsung released the Galaxy Note 7 which was a disaster and we expected few sales from the company overall. Huawei came in third with 9.5% market share and Oppo with 6.2% market share.

For the whole of 2016, Samsung was on top with a 20.5% market share, Apple with 14.4% market share, Huawei with 8.9% and Oppo with 5.7%.
