LG is currently working on its flagship smartphone for 2017, the LG G6, that it plans to unveil next month at Mobile World Congress 2017. With the G6, LG wants to ensure that it builds a smartphone that people will want to buy. This will be different from devices such as the G5 that was not very successful. We have already told you that the company has plans to ditch the modular design with the G6 as it tries to make the phone more appealing to those who want a simple flagship device that they can use on a daily basis.

With the G6, LG plans to make some changes that weren’t the best to have on the G5. One of this will be the removable battery. The LG G5 had a removable battery and this was quite different from other flagship devices from other manufacturers that opted for a non-removable battery. The G5 had to have this since it was a modular device but the company plans to ditch the removable battery with its upcoming flagship.

According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to CNET, LG has been deciding which one is better between having a removable battery and waterproofing the phone. We have already seen waterproofed smartphones from manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple and LG doesn’t want to be left behind. These are the company’s main competitors and it has to ensure it competes on the same level with them.  This is why the company sees waterproofing as more of a priority over removable batteries.

Smartphone designs are complicated and even though most manufacturers want their devices to have the best features, sometimes it is just not easy to have everything the consumers want. This is the case with removable batteries and waterproofing and even though it can be done, it is not so easy to implement and LG has decided to go with waterproofing for now.

Besides waterproofing, the LG G6 will have some amazing features including the Snapdragon 821 processor, a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 2650 pixels with an aspect ration of 18:9. This phone will have 4GB of RAM, a 16MP camera at the back and an 8MP front facing one.

LG seems to be betting on the G6 and is leaving nothing to chance. We will be keen to see if this helps with actual sales when the phone is available in the market.
