Safaricom has been really trying to improve its customer service by coming up with self-service options. Their latest attempt at improving customer service is their new app, My Safaricom. My Safaricom is a self-service app that is aimed at making it easier for Safaricom subscribers to access Safaricom services. It also offers users more, such as managing their account and interacting with Customer Care. The app is impressive, built beautifully and adopts some (very few) elements of material design. Anyway, the main purpose of the app is mot to just look at it, but what it can do. The app offers the following features:

    • Shows account balance i.e. airtime, data and even SMS
    • Topup directly through the app
    • Bonga Points service i.e. enrollment, bonga points balance, bonga points transfer and redeeming
    • Purchasing of bundles including sata and SMS
    • Skiza tune service
    • Sambaza and Okoa Jahazi service
    • Knowledgebase (I didn’t see the usefulness of this though)
    • Basic M-Pesa management
    • Store locator
    • Contact shortcuts

I have used the app for over one month, and I would not say it is an app that I use daily but it is still useful. The app is only available for android users, hopefully Safaricom is working on an iOS app.
