Samsung has today announced the availability of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 in Kenya. This tablet was unveiled to a global audience in March this year and has finally made it way into the country. The interesting thing about the global launch of the Galaxy Tab A is that Samsung did not make much noise about it and it was just listed on the company’s website.

What Samsung did or didn’t not do when it announced this tablet is neither here as the tablet is finally here in Kenya. Samsung says that this tablet is targeting those looking for their first compact and affordable 4G enabled tablet for work and play. The tablet is available for Ksh 20,999 from Samsung experience stores and authorized dealers.

Samsung Electronics East Africa Vice President and Managing Director, Jung Hyun Park said, “The 7” form factor still remains an important part of our tablet business and is popular in emerging but highly advanced mobile markets like ours. With the 7” Tab A, users can augment their mobile experience further with a larger screen and battery than their regular smartphone.

On the other end, companies looking to deploy tablets for their enterprise mobility projects will now have a device that is more affordable, capable, secure and ready to take full advantage of the developing 4G infrastructure in the country for better connectivity and information sharing while on the move.”

The Samsung Galaxy A 7.0 is one of the cheapest tablets from the company you can get in the country at the moment. It’s good to see Samsung try to capture this market segemnt. This is the first tablet from Samsung to come with an inbuilt FM radio application with recording functionality. For some reason, Samsung is very proud of including the FM radio. This is a new feature for Samsung but something that has been available on other tablets for as long as we can remember.

Some extra features Galaxy Tab A 7.0 feature include.

Display: 7.0-inch, 800 x 1280 pixels, 216 ppi pixel density (has a reading mode feature)

Processor: 1.3Ghz Quad core Snapdragon 410 processor

Memory: 8 GB of space expandable up to 200 GB, 1.5 GB RAM

Camera: 5MP at the back, 2MP in front

    Operating system: Android 5.1 Lollipop

    Battery: 4000 mAh

    Network: Up to 4G LTE

Available Colors: Pearl White, Metallic Black

As you can see from the specs above, the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 isn’t a premium device but still has some nice features. For Ksh 20,000, it is here to compete with the likes of the Tecno DroiPad 8II (weird name right?) which will be hitting retail stores later this week. These two tablets cost almost the same and have almost the same features. The Tab A is available in retail stores even before the Tecno tablet and that can be a slight advantage for the Korean manufacturer. Let’s wait and see if this will translate to success in terms of sales.
