WhatsApp May soon release Native Windows and Mac Apps

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging app out there and the company hopes to get more people to spend more time using its services. The company launched WhatsApp for Web last year but was not done with those who wanted to use its services on PCs.

The company is believed to be working on native Windows and Mac apps. This is according to a Twitter account, WABetaInfo, which shared some screenshots of WhatsApp translation website where the reference to the download links for Windows and Mac applications can be found.

WhatsApp hasn’t official said anything about these native apps and this means that it might still be testing the apps as of now. It is quite confusing why WhatsApp would want to have native apps for Windows and Mac users when it already has the web client. They both do the same thing and the web client is much easier to manage over time in terms of updates.

The only thing that might make sense is if we consider the fact that WhatsApp hopes to include some new features to the native apps that are not available on the web client, one such feature is support for audio calls. Probably some other features will be added in the future.

This looks like an interesting thing for WhatsApp to do and we will definitely follow it through to see how it turns out. The news that WhatsApp is working on native apps for Windows and Mac users comes about two months after the company announced that it was going to end support for BlackBerry devices and a few smaller mobile platforms by the end of the year. Well, if you have a BlackBerry device, you may have an option but be warned that your WhatsApp experience will not be very portable.
