WhatsApp for Android Gets Updated and Now Supports Starred Messages and Link Previews

WhatsApp for Android

Back in October, we told you that WhatsApp had plans to allow users to back up their chats directly to Google Drive. Back then this was just a plan but it looks like WhatsApp has finally implemented this feature with the new update.

The latest update upgrades WhatsApp for Android to version 2.12.367 and has been rolling out the past few days to users globally. The update brings in a number of new features that WhatsApp users have wanted for a while.

Some of the new features included in this update are:

  1. Starred messages: Now you can tap and hold on any message in a chat to star it so you can easily find it later (works like a bookmark). You can browse starred messages from the Chats tab > Menu > Starred Messages.
  2. Links that you share or receive will now include a rich preview. When sending a link, you have the option to not include a rich preview.
  3. Support for Android direct share, which lets you quickly choose a specific chat when sharing content from other apps (Android 6.0+).

If you have set your Apps to update automatically, you will get this update the next time you connect to a Wi-Fi network, otherwise, you can just head over to the Google Play Store and update it from there.
