If you change phones every so often, you will agree with me that losing your WhatsApp chats is one of the most frustrating things. There are still ways you can backup and restore your chats when you get a new phone but the process is often hard and complicated especially for those who are not tech savvy.
WhatsApp knows this and that is why the company has been testing a feature for Android devices that allows you to easily backup your chats to Google drive. We have told you before about this feature and we even outlined for you how you can backup your chats directly to Google drive.

WhatsApp has been testing this feature for some time now and it looks like the company is ready to roll out to all users. Interesting, WhatsApp did not reveal about this feature coming to all Android devices but rather the official Google Drive blog broke the news. Google and Facebook (the owners of WhatsApp) are not the best of friends and never seem to agree on most things so it is interesting to see them partner on this.
The blog post revealed, “The new backup feature is rolling out over the next few months, so keep an eye on your WhatsApp settings to see if it’s available.” This does not give a clear date as to when users should expect it so you will have to be patient.
I have just checked my WhatsApp and noticed that I do not have the feature but I will be keeping you informed when I get it and when it is available to the whole Android community.
