Microsoft’s Voice Assistant, Cortana, Will Soon Be Available On iOS and Android

cortana tv

Cortana, Microsoft’s Voice assistant, is one of the most talked about Windows Phone apps. Cortana is similar to Siri on iOS and Google Now on Android but slightly better in my opinion. With Cortana you can set reminders, check weather information and perform search queries on your Smartphone among other things.

Cortana was made for Windows Phone and that is where it has been available to date. It should be noted that Cortana is not officially available in all markets such as Kenya even if you have a Windows Phone device. There are still ways you can get Cortana to your device if you are in Kenya.

Microsoft seems happy with the success of Cortana in the markets it’s available in and plans to bring it to Android and iOS. Microsoft confirmed this yesterday saying that it will be bringing versions of Cortana to iOS and Android. Unlike Cortana for Windows Phone, Android and iOS versions will be standalone apps and not built in into the operating system.

As for functionality, expect the same levels of functionality as you can get from Cortana for Windows Phone. Microsoft said that users on Android and iOS will be able to make queries, get location based reminders. Cortana will also be able to interact with some of Microsoft’s apps including OneDrive and OneNote.

Microsoft did not give us a date as to when we should expect Cortana on Android and iOS devices but be sure they will be available before the year ends.
