With Android wear officially launched, I expect other Smartphone manufacturers to jump over to the Smartwatch market with new devices. This has been the case for Samsung, LG and Motorola and I expect the likes of Apple, Asus, Huawei and the rest to join soon.
Asus is for sure joining Samsung, LG and Motorola according to an anonymous source who spoke to TechCrunch. Asus plans to unveil its first Smartwatch by September this year and expects it to cost between $99 and $149 (approximately Kshs. 8,700 and 13,000 respectively). This is quite cheaper from what we currently have in the market like the Samsung Gear 2 that can go for as much as $300 (approximately Kshs. 25,000).
If Asus manages to pull this off, it will have the competitive edge in this new market which may lead to faster adoption and great success.
The Asus Smartwatch is expected to launch with an AMOLED screen (even better) and is said to be “the thinnest device in the category”.
Android wear is part of Google’s plan to bring sanity to the Smartwatch market. The platform brings all the relevant notifications to your wrist and allows you to perform some tasks quickly and on the go.
