Global health insurance and prevention company Alan has completed its acquisition of Tanel, a Dakar-based digital health company operating in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
Tanel was founded in 2021 by Mouhamed Ndoye and Makhtar Diop to provide digital tools that help businesses manage employee health coverage while giving employees easier access to healthcare services. The company currently serves around 70,000 members across more than 400 companies, with a network of over 1,200 pharmacies and healthcare providers.

Speaking on the acquisition, Jean-Charles Samuelian-Werve, CEO and co-founder of Alan, said: “Tanel has done the hard work of building relationships with users, companies, healthcare providers and regulators in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. Combining that knowledge with Alan’s platform gives us a strong base from which to build in Africa and, together, deliver on a mission we deeply believe in: health can’t wait.”
Alan first invested in Tanel during its 2024 seed round. The acquisition now gives Alan an established entry point into sub-Saharan Africa, with Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire serving as its initial markets.
The two companies aim to reach more than one million members across Africa by 2030. They plan to strengthen their presence in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire before expanding into Anglophone markets in West and East Africa.
Mouhamed Ndoye and Makhtar Diop, co-founders of Tanel, added: “When we started Tanel, we quickly realised that much of the healthcare infrastructure we needed was missing. Building the company felt like trying to build cars where the roads did not yet exist, so we began creating the infrastructure ourselves – first for pharmacies and then across the full patient journey, to give businesses and their employees simpler, more transparent access to care.”
The combined team will initially focus on integrating their platforms, improving the digital patient experience and introducing Alan’s preventive healthcare services, including telehealth.
Tanel’s founders will continue leading its operations and Alan’s African expansion and the full Tanel team will remain with the company.
The deal also represents an exit for Tanel’s founders and early investors, including Ventures Platform and AAIC Investment.
