Airtel Kenya has launched a new referral campaign that will reward customers who bringing in new users to the MyAirtel App.

Dubbed “Refer and Earn,” the initiative allows existing app users to share a referral link or code with friends and family. New users who sign up using the referral receive 1GB of free data. The referrer earns Ksh 20 per month for five months, totaling Ksh 100 per successful referral.

To qualify for the referral reward, the new user must purchase airtime or data worth at least Ksh 100 via the app.

Speaking on the launch, Ashish Malhotra said the initiative aligns with Airtel’s broader digital transformation strategy.

“Digital transformation remains a key priority, and we are constantly enhancing our digital platforms to ensure all our offerings are easily accessible on the app. The MyAirtel App provides a seamless, user-friendly experience that enhances convenience and drives digital adoption,” he said.

Customers can refer multiple users, creating an ongoing earning opportunity. The offer complements Airtel Money’s existing “Rudishiwa” cashback program, which provides 50% cashback on transaction fees for bill payments, bank-to-wallet transfers, and withdrawals across its network of over 260,000 agents.

According to Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, the move reflects how mobile money in Kenya continues to evolve.

“Mobile money in Kenya has evolved from a simple platform for person-to-person transfers into a comprehensive wallet supporting everyday transactions. This offer is designed to drive app downloads while encouraging consistent app usage,” she said.

Beyond referrals, the MyAirtel App continues to position itself as an all-in-one digital platform. Users can access app-exclusive data offers, including 2GB valid for three days, and use the app even without active bundles, as long as they are connected via Wi-Fi or mobile data.
