Valentine’s Day this year saw thousands of Nairobians on the move, with new data from ride-hailing platform Bolt revealing Nyayo Stadium as the most frequented destination on the app.
According to Bolt’s internal ride data, more than 4,000 trips were completed to and from Nyayo Stadium on February 14, making it the single busiest destination on the platform that day. The surge coincided with the recently concluded HSBC SVNS tournament.
“Nyayo Stadium stood out as the single busiest destination on our platform this Valentine’s. This reflects not only the impact of major international tournaments like the HSBC SVNS, but also the trust riders place in Bolt to get them to high-traffic events safely and reliably,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Bolt East Africa.
Beyond the stadium, Nairobi’s leading shopping and lifestyle destinations recorded significant ride volumes on the platform. These included BBS Mall, Sarit Center, Garden City Mall, Thika Road Mall, Yaya Center, Eastleigh Mall and Greenspan Mall.
Sporting events such as the HSBC SVNS generate ticket sales, hospitality revenue and also create measurable spikes in transport demand. These moments serve as stress tests for ride-hailing companies for supply availability, driver distribution and surge management.
“As the city comes alive for major cultural and sporting moments, reliable mobility becomes critical. Our data shows that whether it was fans heading to Nyayo Stadium for world-class rugby or couples visiting Nairobi’s favourite malls, Bolt remained the platform of choice,” Kanyankole added.
For Nairobi, the data offers a glimpse into how technology-enabled transport is responding in real time to the city’s evolving social and economic rhythms.
