Safaricom’s HY26 results show that the company’s transformation into a TechCo, a technology-driven communications and digital services provider, is underway. Beyond mobile and M-PESA, Safaricom is quietly building a strong foundation around cloud, IoT and fiber connectivity.

In the six months to September 2025, Fixed Service and IoT revenue grew 9.5% to reach KShs 9.77 billion. During the same period, IoT revenue alone rose 19.8% to KShs 571 million.

The fiber business continues to expand rapidly. Safaricom now connects 355,000 homes via FTTH, up 35.1% year-on-year. The number of homes passed increased to 799,000 and enterprise fixed connections grew 16.7% to 77,000 customers.

“Fixed and IoT services are becoming central to Safaricom’s growth strategy, supporting digital transformation across households and enterprises,” the company noted in its HY26 performance review.

Safaricom is also positioning itself to play a bigger role in cloud and enterprise technology. With Kenya’s digital economy maturing and businesses shifting workloads online, Safaricom’s enterprise segment,  which includes cloud hosting, IoT and cybersecurity, is expected to become a major growth pillar in the coming years.

As M-PESA and data power consumer growth, fiber, IoT, and cloud are emerging as the next growth wave targeting Kenya’s SMEs, corporates and public sector digital transformation agenda.
