Earlier this month, Spotify launched Offline Backup for those who want to listen to music offline without any downloads. The music streaming giant says it is targeting those who want to save in data while still listening to the music or anyone who may find themselves in an area with no internet such as on a plane. This can also be appealing to those who have limited data but may access unlimited data during the day.
This feature is only available to Spotify Premium users.
How Spotify Offline Backup Works
Spotify Offline Backup works by taking your queued and recently played songs (cache) and creates a playlist accessible to you. You can think of this like the normal playlists Spotify creates for you but this is specifically meant for offline listening.
Spotify allows the filtering and sorting of songs within the artist by artist, mood or even genre. As you continue using Spotify, your Offline Backup will also evolve to include new songs.
All this happens automatically and ensures you have something to listen to even if you forget to add songs to your playlist. If you ever find yourself in a situation with no data but have been using Spotify recently, you can access your music without any issues. This is perfect for those who tend to be busy and have no time to keep adding music to their playlists.
How to Use Spotify Offline Backup
Using Offline Backup is easy as it will appear automatically in your Home feed when you are offline.
You need to have listened to five songs recently and have enabled offline listening. This can be done by going to settings then Data Saving and Offline or Storage. Toggle the Offline Listening option.
You can add Offline Backup to your library for easy access at all times.
If you can’t find Offline Backup, try updating your app to see if that fixes the issue.
