Telkom has today announced a new partnership with Lipa Later. Through this partnership, the company says the process of acquiring new smart devices will be much easier. The partnership will make it easier for customers to acquire the smartphones they want and pay monthly installments instead of paying the full amount upfront. There are interest rates so the total amount you end up paying will be slightly higher than what you would pay if you bought the device outright.

Lipa Later has been in operations in Kenya for a while and charges 4.2% interest rate for those who use its services. Payments can be made in 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. For some people, this is a better option for them to acquire the devices they want but may not be willing or are not able to raise the whole amount at the time of purchase.

“Telkom is excited to announce this partnership as it speaks to our belief that access to Mobile Data is a fundamental human right. This is due to its strategic potential to progressively address digital inclusion; ensuring the benefits of the Internet and digital technologies are available to more Kenyans, consequently empowering the digital economy,” said Telkom CEO, Mugo Kibati.

Telkom says this partnership is in line with its vision of empowering its customers to access mobile and data services. “Telkom remains committed to enabling Kenyans be part of an interconnected world. We continue to have exploratory discussions with our partners to find solutions that will enable our customers have access to a wide range of authentic products and services, affordably and conveniently,” added Mr. Kibati.

Just recently, Telkom unveiled the Changa Bundle offer that makes it easier for its customers to share data, minutes, voice and SMS. These latest moves by Telkom are customer focused and they should help the brand compete with Safaricom which seems to be steps ahead of Telkom with the innovative products and services it keeps introducing to the market.

How to Buy devices using Lipa Later

Getting the smartphone you want from Telkom using Lipa Later is quite easy. All you need to do is:

    • Walk into any Telkom Store (or any other store that has partnered with Lipa Later)
    • Sign up with Lipa Later.
    • Get a credit limit (in under 5 minutes).
    • Choose the phone you want.
    • Pay monthly installments for up to 12 months.

Lipa Later CEO, Eric Muli said, “We are delighted to kick start this partnership with Telkom that will enable both our customers to get and stay connected by acquiring mobile and data devices affordably. “Additionally with our integration with UzaPoint, the process at the checkout till will be seamless for the consumer across all the Telkom outlets in the country.”
