The Tecno Camon 16s was launched in Kenya not so long ago and is currently available in stores in Kenya for Ksh 16,500 on Jumia. This is the affordable variant in the Camon 16 series with the Camon 16 Premier being the most expensive one available in Kenya for Ksh 28,500.

The Tecno Camon 16s is still a phone worth considering even if it is not the flagship of the series. It comes with specifications that will be good enough if it is to compete with the other devices within its price range.

I have a unit to review and will be done with it by the end of the week. Before I get to the full review, I thought I should highlight some of the things you should expect in the box and at the same time share my first impressions on it.

    First Impressions

The first thing I noticed when taking the phone out of the box is how bulky it is. It does feel a lot like the Tecno Spark 5 Pro which I reviewed a few weeks back. We have the same gradient colour tone and design too. Tecno did not change much in terms of the design.

At the back sits the four cameras made up of a 48MP main sensor, 2MP depth sensor, 2MP macro lens and an AI lens. The few photos I have taken with the back camera are quite good. Nothing fancy but they are still good enough for the price.

The fingerprint scanner is also at the back and it is easy to set up and use. It can be used to unlock the phone as well as use it as the shutter button to take photos, accept a call, activate call recording and dismiss the alarm.

For the display, we do have a 6.6-inch display that is also good. This display has a 720p resolution which is not the highest you can get and I think is a bit disappointing. For a phone in its price, Tecno could have done better. The display is usable but is not ideal under direct sunlight or outdoors, it does not get very bright for such situations.

    Tecno Camon 16s BOTTOM

For performance, the Camon 16s is powered the Helio P35 processor that has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. With such a combination, you are expecting decent performance and that is exactly what you are getting. I will be using this phone extensively for the next few days and share my thought on it and how it handles tasks.
