Vivo to Launch Funtouch OS Replacement on November 19

Vivo is about to replace its custom Funtouch OS Android skin with a new overhauled variant called Origin OS. Origin OS will be based on Android as well and will be formally introduced two weeks from now, on November 19th.

The launch will be happening at the company’s proprietary developer conference named Vivo Developer Conference, VDC 2020.

The Chinese company has in the past considered rebranding its custom UI to Jovi OS that was to launch with the X30 series in December 2019. The company later axed those plans in early December and went ahead to launch a new iteration of Funtouch OS – version 10.

As reported in our Vivo V17 Pro review, the custom UI takes a different approach on certain common features found in many Android skins. Out of the box, you’ll be caught offside by some actions. So if you’re new to vivo’s Funtouch custom Android skin, it might take you sometime before you get the hang of it.

For instance, a swipe down will only show you the notifications panel. To access the quick settings panel, you need a swipe up and not down as with most custom UIs and vanilla Android.

In and of itself, it’s good to see Vivo make amends to better its custom UI. As of this writing, the company has not yet provided any highlights on the major changes we should expect to see.

So stay tuned, we shall know all of that by 19th and any other new exciting details the company has in store.
