Samsung Adds Another Phone to the Galaxy S20 Family

Samsung Electronics has expanded its Galaxy S20 range of phones with a new model dubbed Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition). The Galaxy S20 FE continues the Galaxy S Series premium specs and design legacy – but with a few compromises from its peers to make it $699.

Important features borrowed from the S20 series include the high 120Hz refresh rate display, the potent Snapdragon 865 processor, and 5G support.

On the design front, the FE has a flat 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel, unlike the curved high-resolution panel on the rest of the S20 family.

Galaxy S20 FE’s back is crafted from plastic, but Samsung says the added “premium textured haze effect” should minimize fingerprint and smudges.

It doesn’t ship with the 108MP camera, which comes at the cost of missing out 8K recording capability. Instead, its primary sensor is 12 megapixels.

There’s also a 12-megapixel ultrawide and an 8-megapixel telephoto. The primary sensor has OIS while the telephoto has 3x optical zoom, but purely leveraging software achieves 30x zoom – “space zoom”. The selfie camera is a single 32-megapixel lens.

Galaxy S20 FE will be available in six different colors. They include Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White.

The rest of the hardware includes up to 8GB RAM, 256GB of internal storage, 4,500mAh battery, wireless charging, IP68 certification, and stereo speakers.

Samsung’s motivation behind the S20 FE is COVID, which prompted the company to deliver a flagship experience to more consumers.

According to Dr TM Roh, Samsung’s President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, “The S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family and is the start of a new way to bring meaningful innovation to even more people to let them do the things they love with the best of Galaxy.”
