September looks like a promising month for those looking to buy new smartphones in Kenya. We have already done a post on some of the devices that will be launching in the country this month but the list wasn’t conclusive as we are expecting some more devices that we may not know if yet.

OPPO is the latest company to announce that it will be launching a new smartphone in the country this year. This new phone, the OPPO Reno 4, is the successor to the Reno 3 that I reviewed not so long ago. I particularly love the design and build quality, camera, display and performance of the Reno 3.

Now that the Reno 3 is out of the way, OPPO is refreshing the Reno line with the fourth variant. The OPPO Reno 4 was announced back in June so it was about time for it to make its way to Kenya. The price has not been revealed as of now but I expect it to be right around where the Reno 3 has been retailing at.

“With the Reno4 we have ensured that the device can meet the ever-changing requirements of the young trendsetting generation and also keep them up-to-date with the latest trends in smartphone technology,” said Muthoni Wachira, Head of Communications & Projects at OPPO Kenya.

With the launch of the Reno 4 in Kenya, it might be a good idea to also consider getting the Reno 3 which is still a good phone and I am expecting its price to drop. If that is the case, you can opt for the 3 if you find a good deal and do not want to spend more on the Reno 4.

As usual, the Reno 4 is all about the cameras but the company isn’t going crazy with the Megapixels. The phone comes with a quad camera setup made up of a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. It is good to see OPPO ditch the macro lens as to be honest it never adds any real value to the photography experience. For selfies it has a dual module made up of a 32MP main sensor and 2MP depth sensor.

Below are some of the other specifications of the OPPO Reno 4.

    • Display: 6.43-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution
    • Processor:  Snapdragon 765G
    • GPU:  Adreno 620
    • RAM: 8 GB
    • Storage: 128/256 GB internal storage, no SD card slot
    • Cameras: Quad: 48MP + 8MP + 2MP rear cameras, 32 MP + 2MP front-facing camera
    • SIM: dual SIM
    • Battery: 4,000 mAh battery
    • Android: Android 10, ColorOS 7.2
