Google Meet is Working on Replaceable Background Images and a Bunch of New Features

Google Meet, one of Google’s video-conferencing platforms besides Duo, is scheduled to receive a bunch of new features. The new features are all in Google’s pipeline of updates, as the company seeks to cement the products’ functionality.

The first incoming feature is the ability to add your own background images or a blur effect to backgrounds. Background replacement has been one important feature Zoom happened to have just when many workers around the world switched to working from home.  Google Meet will also offer you a number of pre-installed background images you can choose from.

In case you didn’t want to be associated with Zoom, Meet is bringing the feature. Although other video conferencing applications already have it i.e. Microsoft Teams.

Another feature coming to the consumer-faced Meet is a tile view of up to 49 participants in addition to the current 16-person tile view. Apart from these two, Meet will also add real-time captioning, low-light mode, and hand-raising.

For enterprise targeted Google Meet, the company has a couple of more features in their update roadmap including;

  • Meeting attendance: Give meeting hosts a simple way to see who attended their meeting.
  • Breakout rooms: Make it easy for large meetings to split into smaller groups, have parallel discussions, and reconvene once finished.
  • Q&A: Provide a channel for the audience to ask questions without disrupting the flow of the conversation.
  • Polling: Engage participants in large meetings with real-time polling.
  • Additional moderator controls: Give meeting hosts additional controls for muting, presenting, joining, and more.

Google has started testing some of the features on enterprise versions of Meet that are planned for consumer-faced Meet.

There’s no official date as to when these features will be rolling out.
