WhatsApp Messenger is testing a couple of features that if successful we will be able to use them in the near future. The first and foremost feature is multi-device support. Currently, WhatsApp only supports two simultaneous logins – one on desktop and one on mobile.

But the desktop version simply mirrors the mobile versions so as soon as there is no network on your cell phone, it doesn’t work anymore.

In a new feature currently tested in the app, WhatsApp will soon be able to support up to 4 different devices, WABetaInfo shared the information on this development in a tweet. The first tip on multi-device support coming to WhatsApp can be traced back to earlier in March this year and to date, it hasn’t made it to the beta channel yet.

Another new feature under development is the ability to search messages by date feature. To make it happen, WhatsApp is reportedly adding a calendar inside the in-chat search mode. This is under development on iOS only as of now, according to WABetaInfo.

The storage usage section is also getting a remake. The first change is a facelift followed by additional tweaks to help you manage your files better including a new sorting button and a ‘clear except starred’ option. This feature is also under testing on the iOS version of WhatsApp, which means rollout may first begin with the iPhone before hitting Android devices.

Exclusively for Indian users, currently the largest market for the Facebook-owned instant messenger app, WhatsApp is testing integration with ShareChat, an Indian-based Social networking service that hosts local videos. This integration means that users can now play ShareChat videos directly on WhatsApp in Picture-in-Picture mode.

Other features under development include a new color for bubbles, search image feature on the web, and contacts shortcuts, and a redesigned menu on iOS.
