WhatsApp May Soon Let People Use the Same Account on Multiple Phones

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users login to the same account and use the same phone number on multiple smartphones. This feature has been demanded by many users but I don’t see its use to be honest as I prefer to be logged in to the phone that I am currently using. Moving to a new phone can be a hustle but I do not mind it that much.

At the moment, you can only login to your account on one device and the only other exception is to use the WhatsApp Web feature. This has been good for those who want to use WhatsApp on their browsers but it was not a standalone option as when you switch off data on your phone, you can no longer access WhatsApp on your browser.

With multiple device support, chats will be synchronized across all the different devices that are logged in. This will be similar to what we have on Telegram where you can log in to the same account on multiple devices.

This feature was first spotted back in 2019 by WABetaInfo but at the time it was a very limited release and we did not have enough information on how it was going to work. The new WhatsApp beta version 2.20.110 has this feature according to WABetaInfo.

The version is still in beta and its official roll out is still unknown. The feature may even disappear at some point. We have to wait for official communication and roll out from WhatsApp to know what it is all about. Will the secondary devices be independent or will they reply on the primary device at all times? These are some of the questions we will need answers too when the feature is rolled out.

Not Dual App

This new feature should not be confused with the Dual Apps mode on devices from Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Samsung. The dual app mode allows users to have to different WhatsApp accounts on the same phone. With the feature on beta, you will be able to log in to the same account on different devices.
