Upcoming OnePlus 8 Series Devices To Support 30W Wireless Charging Technology

OnePlus has long launched budget midrange devices that try to measure up to the high-end premium devices. However, that came at a cost and one of the tradeoffs was the unavailability of wireless charging.

But in the upcoming OnePlus 8 series, the company is ready, for the first time, to add a wireless charging functionality.

The first-time trial is a 30W charging brick that charges wireless dubbed Warp Charge 30 Wireless. The company has bought enough time with which they have been able “to further develop a new technological concept” that meets the Warp Charge standards – unlike the existing wireless charging technology.

With an output of 30W, the charger can juice a smartphone from 1% to 50% in only half an hour.

At such speeds, the main challenge is efficiency which is why the company opted to use proprietary Warp wireless direct charging architecture that “enables real time communication between the wireless charger and the phone through a customized chip.” The chip is responsible for controlling both the current and voltage for maximum efficiency.

In the case of abnormal currents and voltages, the charge pump deactivates automatically for safety purposes. OnePlus says their charging technology delivers charge efficiency of 97%.

Since most wireless chargers, even proprietary ones, have been standardized to be Qi-compatible, OnePlus 8 will also support the same. However, if you opt to use a Qi wireless charger, you’ll only juice your OnePlus device at a tiny 5W. Using a Qi wireless charger that supports a 10W EPP standard, will be of much help, with charging speeds of up to 10W.
