Huawei is set to launch its Nova series in Kenya as early as next week if everything goes as planned. This will be the first official launch of a Nova device in Kenya unless there is one that I missed.

Huawei will be launching the Nova 5T in the Kenya next week but I am still not sure about the exact date. The company is clear that the launch of this phone in the country has nothing to do with the US trade ban that has affected some parts of Huawei’s business including its mobile division. With the ban, Huawei’s mobile division has not been aggressive as with previous years and even one of its latest flagships, the Mate 30 is available in select markets. The Nova 5T is not a new phone and launching it in Kenya now raises question as why now when the series has existed for a while? Have the sales been low locally?

All that aside, the Huawei Nova 5T is an interesting device to bring to the Kenyan market. It does come with some good mid-range specifications that should rival the likes of OPPO and the new brand in town, Vivo. This is a very competitive segment as the customers want the best and have very good options to choose from and manufacturers have to make sure they can compete with the other players.

Huawei is confident with the Nova 5T as it has been with some of its other devices including the Y series that has proven to be popular in the market. The company has already started running marketing campaigns on this device and we expect more when the phone is officially launched in the country.

We do not have information on pricing but in other markets it is retailing for $370 which converts to Ksh 37,400.

Below are some of the key specifications of the Huawei Nova 5T.

Display: 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution
    Processor:  HiSilicon Kirin 980
    GPU:  Mali-G76 MP10
    RAM: 6/8 GB
Storage: 128 GB internal storage, no SD card slot
    Cameras: Quad: 48MP + 16MP + 2MP + 2MP rear cameras, 32 MP front-facing camera
    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 3,750 mAh battery
Android: Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9

The launch is planned for next week according to an insider in the company but I will update you if there are any changes.
