Sony Unveils PS5 Logo, Confirms 2020 Launch of its Next-Gen Console at CES

sony ps5 logo unveiled

At CES 2020, Sony unveiled the new PS5 logo which is nothing new as you’d expect. The company has retained a similar logo to that of the PS4, only changing the ‘4’ to a ‘5’.

The company also said the new console would arrive towards the end of the year – the exact time when its competitor, Microsoft, will be releasing its next-gen console, the XBOX Series X.

Sony was reserved when it came to providing any useful details on the PS5. The company, however, did say that the console will sport AMD’s Zen 2 CPU and a custom GPU, still from AMD, that supports ray-tracing and 3D audio technology. Like its peer, the XBOX Series X, Sony’s PS5 will also run on super-fast SSDs to cut down on load times to curtail loading times. Prepare to be entertained at 8K resolution, too.

Well, I feel like Sony sort of wasted this keynote when all eyes were eagerly waiting for the PS5 unveiling. Up to date we still don’t know how the PlayStation 5 will look like.

The company also revealed some stats on sales regarding its gaming hardware business. Sony says they have sold more than 5 million PlayStation VR headsets since the official launch in 2016. For the PS4, Sony has sold 104 consoles so far. This puts the PS5 at the second position, similar to last time, still trailing behind the PS2 which has been sold a whopping 158 million times.

Sony also had a surprise announcement of its EV car concept at CES 2020.
