It has been a week of financial reports, and the latest company to release its results is Sony. The company released its quarterly earnings report on Friday, 1st November detailing how it has performed in its several business categories, of course, including the hardware business.

As of the latest report, Sony sold a total of 2.8 million PS4 units this quarter. An additional 2.8 million units now make the total PS4 console sales stand at 102.8 million. Sony had achieved the 100 million sales mark for P24 consoles by July.

This number is enormous, but still, the PS4 doesn’t make it the best-selling console of all time, at least not yet.

However, Sony PS4 sales have surpassed two consoles on the leader board with Q3 sales. First is the Wii, which sold 101.6 million units in total and the PS1, which sold 102.5.

Sony PS2 is still at the top of the ranks, which makes Sony a proud company with three best-selling home consoles of all time. The PS2 sold a whopping 155 million units. I don’t think there is a chance the PS4 could surpass this figure with the successor – PS5, coming next year. Even harder considering Sony’s PS4 sales have been slumping down, which makes next year a perfect time for Sony to refresh its home console lineup.

The company’s gaming revenue is stalling, as well. Sony recorded a 17 percent decrease in gaming revenue while the profits were down by 35 percent.
